SUMMARY:Art and Meditation at The Dalí – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nThis event has sold out.  \nJoin us to journey inward through art and meditation at The Dalí. Our monthly meditation practice is based on the idea of looking at examples of art to achieve a dynamic stillness of the mind. Each session will examine an artwork from a current exhibition to make us think\, refocus\, slow down and go deeper into our minds to permit body connection and awareness. \nAfter a short introduction to the artwork\, we will consider what is in its narrative and formal qualities that could serve us to quiet our minds. Guided meditation instruction and suggestions will lead us to a place of calmness and equilibrium. Each session will introduce and utilize different sets of tools from a variety of spiritual traditions to assist staying in comfortable meditative mode for about twenty minutes. However\, anyone having a prior meditation practice is welcome to utilize it and join us for the collective peaceful energy building.  \nTibetan sing bowl sound will accompany us with an occasional bell throughout the practice and to signal the end of the meditation session. Afterwards\, we will welcome questions and comments about the practice\, the artwork\, and the experience in general. \nWe will conclude with a minute of closing meditation to internally seal the benefits of the practice.   \nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater \nSeating for this event is limited. An event ticket is required for entry. Gallery access is not included. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristof Znyk \nKristof is a new transplant to St. Petersburg after living in New York for 30 years. A graduate of City University with a Master of Fine Arts degree\, Kristof taught visual arts in Gramercy Arts High School for 23 years. The intense city life and high job demands led him to become a spiritual seeker. After taking many classes in various yoga studios\, Kristof made the decision to study at the oldest New York City yoga establishment\, the Integral Yoga Institute.  Having earned his credentials\, he taught all aspects of yoga\, physical poses\, philosophy\, breath work and meditation at the institution from 2007 to 2020. Additional studies and certification in Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Kids helped Kristof to incorporate best practices with his students in high school as well as in the Yoga Institute. He co-curated the 2011 exhibition Windows on the War: Soviet TASS Posters at Home and Abroad\, 1941–1945 at The Art Institute of Chicago\, and co-authored the accompanying catalogue (Yale University Press). He is currently finishing a book on photography and community in the 1960s\, tentatively entitled Photography after the Great Society.

DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\n\nThis event has been canceled.  \nIn conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection we invite you to join us for a fantastic evening of polaroid photography.  \nPolaroid photography aficionado Lance Rothstein has been making instant photos since before 2008. Lance will bring a table full of Polaroid cameras from his personal collection and guide you through the fun process of creating Polaroid pictures. He’ll discuss the history of Polaroid\, show examples from famous photographers and share images from his tour of the Polaroid Factory in the Netherlands. Lance will also explain the different types of instant cameras and films currently available\, as well as those that have been discontinued. \nEach participant will be provided with an instant camera to borrow and one pack of instant film. After a brief instructional session on how to get the best results from your camera and film\, along with some creative tips\, you’ll have about 40 minutes to take photos on a guided photo walk outside and around the Museum’s first floor\, with advice available if needed. Digital photos can also be turned into real Polaroid pictures using Instant Labs. Materials are included. Gallery admission included after the workshop. \n\nLance Rothstein \nLocal darkroom guru Lance Rothstein is a native Floridian photographer\, now living in Clearwater. A professional photojournalist by trade\, his clients have included Time Magazine\, The Miami Herald\, Sports Illustrated\, and the New York Times. He was a staff photographer for the The Tampa Bay Times\, and The Tampa Tribune. \nLance studied Visual Art at FSU under great artists such as George Blakely\, Robert Fichter\, Ed Love\, Mark Messersmith and Mary Jo Toles. Other workshops included Jerry Ullesmann\, Donna Ferrato\, James Nachtwey\, Sebastiao Salgado and Gordon Parks. \nAfter working as a freelance photographer for six years in Belgium and capturing images all over Europe\, Lance has returned to Florida and is continuing his never-ending experiments with all things photographic. He has a passion for traditional film and alternative photography methods\, he’s a Polaroid addict and a pathological camera collector. Access to the Museum’s ground floor is free and open to the public. \n\nTo watch the live stream from home\, click below at the time of the program: \n\nstream now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie Diaz was born and raised in the Fort Mojave Indian Village in Needles\, California\, on the banks of the Colorado River. She is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe. Author of the poetry collections Postcolonial Love Poem (Graywolf\, 2020)\, winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize\, and When My Brother Was an Aztec (Copper Canyon Press\, 2012)\, she has received many honors—including a MacArthur Fellowship\, a Mellon Fellowship\, a USA Fellowship\, a Lannan Literary Fellowship\, a Hodder Fellowship\, a PEN/Civitella Ranieri Foundation Residency\, a New School Fellowship\, and a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowship. She also was the Rosenkranz Visiting Writer at Yale. Her work has been widely translated into Spanish\, French\, Portuguese\, Danish\, Swedish\, Polish and Slovenian. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Old Dominion University\, where she received a full athletic scholarship. Diaz played professional basketball in Europe and Asia before returning to Old Dominion to earn a Master of Fine Arts. She is the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Chair in Modern and Contemporary Poetry at Arizona State University\, where she directs ASU’s Center for Imagination in the Borderlands.

DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\n\nmember tickets\nnon-member tickets\n\nIn conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection\, keyboardist Jennifer Theuer Růžička\, alongside special guests vocalist Fred Johnson and bassist Tim Conwell\, invites you to explore the surrealist themes of the exhibition through sound. \nThis unique performance draws inspiration from the exhibition’s exploration of how artists have used photographic techniques to question the very nature of perception and delving into the subconscious. The performance will focus on a selection of images from the exhibition\, translating their surreal essence into sound. Utilizing the genre of Musique Concrète alongside acoustic instruments and spoken word\, the performance will amplify the experimental nature of the surrealist photographs. Don’t see it on your card? Click here.Not yet a member? Join today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlchymie /aka Jennifer Theuer Růžička/\, was created in 2013. Through electronic and acoustic instruments\, sound loops\, and field recordings Alchymie spans ambient soundscapes\, electronica\, new age and drone; painting textural atmospheres of sound for recordings or performances with a conceptual focus. \nJennifer has been composing and performing professionally for over 30 years. Classically trained with an eclectic background in R&B\, funk\, fusion\, rock\, jazz\, pop\, new age\, and experimental. In 2022 she joined Colombian drummer/percussionist and producer Diego Verney to form the esoteric electronica project Beta Lyra. She performs & records internationally having toured with Alexander O’Neal\, former Paisley Park artist David “T.C.” Ellis\, Mallia “The Queen of Funk” Franklin from Parliament-Funkadelic and Parlet; collaborating with drone artist Gregg Skloff\, New Age group Spectral Reflections\, and performing with Czech legends Pavel Bobek\, and Karel Šůcha and Laura A Její Tygří(Laura and Her Tigers). She continues to follow Alchymie in music\, searching for the beauty that is transformation.  \nThat search continues also through her sound healing work and the exploration of sound as a way to provide multidimensional well-being. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrederick Johnson is a community engagement specialist at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa\, FL\, and a renowned artist\, educator\, and social justice advocate. Johnson has spent the last 45 years creating spaces where art and creative expression have been used to empower and give voice to less privileged communities and provide safe and equitable forums where compassionate and authentic stories can be shared\, in an effort to transcend fear and division and create trust and transformation. Mentored by masters of the West African oral and healing traditions\, Johnson brings ancient wisdom and practices into a contemporary setting\, reexamining the healing power and importance of artistic expression and its aesthetic relevance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim Conwell\, A Florida-based entrepreneur and founder of TNT Groove International\, has built a reputation as a leader in media\, entertainment\, and technology. With over 25 years of experience as a musician and community advocate\, Tim’s passion for music and outreach has seen him tour the U.S. during the legendary entertainment industry era in St. Paul/Minneapolis led by Prince\, Jimmy Jam\, Terry Lewis\, Alexander O’Neal and Paula Abdul; just to name a few. His deep connection to underserved communities fuels his belief in the generational healing power of music. Tim focuses on using music to bring people together\, create positive change\, and foster well-being.
