Through deep connection with the forest\, I listen to the voices of nature\, offering prayers for the earth and the cosmos while creating art that bridges present experiences with future possibilities. \nOne of my works was selected to represent Japan in a prestigious global competition at the Louvre Museum in Paris. I have been honored with numerous awards both in Japan and internationally\, including recognitions in New York and across various European countries\, notably France. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n花鳥風月 \n“Kachō Fūgetsu” (花鳥風月) is a traditional Japanese phrase that encapsulates the beauty and poetry of nature. It is composed of four kanji characters:– 花 (Ka) – Flowers/blossoms- 鳥 (Chō) – Birds- 風 (Fū) – Wind- 月 (Getsu) – Moon \nThis phrase represents more than just a simple list of natural elements. It embodies the Japanese aesthetic appreciation of nature and its changing seasons\, including:- Cherry and plum blossoms in spring- Birds singing in trees- The autumn breeze at dusk- The moon shining in the winter sky.The concept goes beyond mere natural description – it represents a fundamental aspect of Japanese cultural sensitivity and artistic appreciation. It appears frequently in traditional Japanese arts such as:- Waka and haiku poetry- Ink wash painting (sumi-e)- Traditional garden design- Classical literatureIn modern usage\, “Kachō Fūgetsu” is often used to describe scenes of natural beauty or situations that evoke a profound sense of artistic refinement and appreciation of nature. SUMMARY:Art and Meditation at The Dalí
DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nJoin us to journey inward through art and meditation at The Dalí. Our monthly meditation practice is based on the idea of looking at examples of art to achieve a dynamic stillness of the mind. Each session will examine an artwork from a current exhibition to make us think\, refocus\, slow down and go deeper into our minds to permit body connection and awareness. \nAfter a short introduction to the artwork\, we will consider what is in its narrative and formal qualities that could serve us to quiet our minds. Guided meditation instruction and suggestions will lead us to a place of calmness and equilibrium. Each session will introduce and utilize different sets of tools from a variety of spiritual traditions to assist staying in comfortable meditative mode for about twenty minutes. However\, anyone having a prior meditation practice is welcome to utilize it and join us for the collective peaceful energy building.  \nTibetan sing bowl sound will accompany us with an occasional bell throughout the practice and to signal the end of the meditation session. Afterwards\, we will welcome questions and comments about the practice\, the artwork\, and the experience in general. \nWe will conclude with a minute of closing meditation to internally seal the benefits of the practice.   \nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater \nSeating for this event is limited. An event ticket is required for entry. Gallery access is not included. \n\nregister now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristof Znyk \nKristof is a new transplant to St. Petersburg after living in New York for 30 years. A graduate of City University with a Master of Fine Arts degree\, Kristof taught visual arts in Gramercy Arts High School for 23 years. The intense city life and high job demands led him to become a spiritual seeker. After taking many classes in various yoga studios\, Kristof made the decision to study at the oldest New York City yoga establishment\, the Integral Yoga Institute.  Having earned his credentials\, he taught all aspects of yoga\, physical poses\, philosophy\, breath work and meditation at the institution from 2007 to 2020. Additional studies and certification in Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Kids helped Kristof to incorporate best practices with his students in high school as well as in the Yoga Institute. DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nSubverting the Subversive: Women\, Vision and Power\nJoin us for this month’s installment of our Coffee with a Curator series\, where Museum staff or invited guests speak on a range of Salvador Dalí-inspired topics. \nIn conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection\, this lecture explores the groundbreaking work of eight surrealist female photographers\, with a special focus on Dora Maar. These artists redefined the boundaries of photography\, using their medium to challenge traditional narratives\, subvert patriarchal norms and reclaim the surrealist movement’s often male-dominated lens. Through their innovative techniques and powerful imagery\, they not only reimagined the surreal but also carved spaces for women’s voices in art\, vision and power. Her career includes leadership roles at the Clearwater Arts Alliance\, Center for Contemporary Art (Santa Fe)\, art4business (London) and LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts (Tallahassee). Allison also serves on the Steering Committee for St. Petersburg’s SHINE Mural Festival.

Individual books include Shimming the Glass House\, and a chapbook\, Pink Streets. A former Poet Laureate of St. Petersburg\, she is the curator of The Dalí Poetry series.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAjibola Tolase is a Nigerian poet and essayist. He graduated from the creative writing MFA program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His chapbook\, Koola Lobitos\, was published as a part of the New Generation African Poets Series\, edited by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani\, in 2021. His writing has appeared in LitHub\, New England Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Poetry and elsewhere. He is a former Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford University and has received a creative writing grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. He is the 2023-2024 Olive B. O’Connor Fellow in Poetry at Colgate University. He is the author of 2000 Blacks\, winner of the 2024 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSilvia Curbelo is the author of two full-length poetry collections\, Falling Landscape and The Secret History of Water\, both available from Anhinga Press\, and two chapbooks. Awards include poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs\, the Cintas Foundation and the Writer’s Voice\, as well as the Jessica Nobel Maxwell Poetry Prize from American Poetry Review. Her poems have been published widely in literary journals and more than three dozen anthologies\, including Helen Vendler’s Poems\, Poets\, Poetry (Beford/St Martin) and The Norton Anthology of Latino Literature (W.W. Norton). A native of Cuba\, Silvia has lived in Tampa all her adult life.

DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nJoin us to journey inward through art and meditation at The Dalí. Our monthly meditation practice is based on the idea of looking at examples of art to achieve a dynamic stillness of the mind. Each session will examine an artwork from a current exhibition to make us think\, refocus\, slow down and go deeper into our minds to permit body connection and awareness. \nAfter a short introduction to the artwork\, we will consider what is in its narrative and formal qualities that could serve us to quiet our minds. Guided meditation instruction and suggestions will lead us to a place of calmness and equilibrium. Each session will introduce and utilize different sets of tools from a variety of spiritual traditions to assist staying in comfortable meditative mode for about twenty minutes. However\, anyone having a prior meditation practice is welcome to utilize it and join us for the collective peaceful energy building.  \nTibetan sing bowl sound will accompany us with an occasional bell throughout the practice and to signal the end of the meditation session. Afterwards\, we will welcome questions and comments about the practice\, the artwork\, and the experience in general. \nWe will conclude with a minute of closing meditation to internally seal the benefits of the practice.   \nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater \nSeating for this event is limited. We recommend arriving early to secure seating with your group. \n\nThis event is sold out.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristof Znyk \nKristof is a new transplant to St. Petersburg after living in New York for 30 years. A graduate of City University with a Master of Fine Arts degree\, Kristof taught visual arts in Gramercy Arts High School for 23 years. The intense city life and high job demands led him to become a spiritual seeker. After taking many classes in various yoga studios\, Kristof made the decision to study at the oldest New York City yoga establishment\, the Integral Yoga Institute.  Having earned his credentials\, he taught all aspects of yoga\, physical poses\, philosophy\, breath work and meditation at the institution from 2007 to 2020. Additional studies and certification in Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Kids helped Kristof to incorporate best practices with his students in high school as well as in the Yoga Institute.
