DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nThis month\, in collaboration with Eckerd College’s National Poetry Month Reading Series\, Poetry at The Dalí welcomes poet Natalie Diaz to our stage. Poetry at The Dalí is an ongoing series hosted by former poet laureate of St. Petersburg\, Helen Pruitt Wallace\, featuring select poets each month. \nYou can view past poetry performances on the Museum’s YouTube channel here. \nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater or live on YouTube (link below) \nThis event is held on the ground floor of the Museum (gallery access not included). Access to the Museum’s ground floor is free and open to the public. \n\nTo watch the live stream from home\, click below at the time of the program: \n\nstream now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNatalie Diaz was born and raised in the Fort Mojave Indian Village in Needles\, California\, on the banks of the Colorado River. She is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe. Author of the poetry collections Postcolonial Love Poem (Graywolf\, 2020)\, winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize\, and When My Brother Was an Aztec (Copper Canyon Press\, 2012)\, she has received many honors—including a MacArthur Fellowship\, a Mellon Fellowship\, a USA Fellowship\, a Lannan Literary Fellowship\, a Hodder Fellowship\, a PEN/Civitella Ranieri Foundation Residency\, a New School Fellowship\, and a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowship. She also was the Rosenkranz Visiting Writer at Yale. Her work has been widely translated into Spanish\, French\, Portuguese\, Danish\, Swedish\, Polish and Slovenian. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Old Dominion University\, where she received a full athletic scholarship. Diaz played professional basketball in Europe and Asia before returning to Old Dominion to earn a Master of Fine Arts. She is the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Chair in Modern and Contemporary Poetry at Arizona State University\, where she directs ASU’s Center for Imagination in the Borderlands.

DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\n\nmember tickets\nnon-member tickets\n\nIn conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection\, keyboardist Jennifer Theuer Růžička\, alongside special guests vocalist Fred Johnson and bassist Tim Conwell\, invites you to explore the surrealist themes of the exhibition through sound. \nThis unique performance draws inspiration from the exhibition’s exploration of how artists have used photographic techniques to question the very nature of perception and delving into the subconscious. The performance will focus on a selection of images from the exhibition\, translating their surreal essence into sound. Utilizing the genre of Musique Concrète alongside acoustic instruments and spoken word\, the performance will amplify the experimental nature of the surrealist photographs. Don’t see it on your card? Click here.Not yet a member? Join today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlchymie /aka Jennifer Theuer Růžička/\, was created in 2013. Through electronic and acoustic instruments\, sound loops\, and field recordings Alchymie spans ambient soundscapes\, electronica\, new age and drone; painting textural atmospheres of sound for recordings or performances with a conceptual focus. \nJennifer has been composing and performing professionally for over 30 years. Classically trained with an eclectic background in R&B\, funk\, fusion\, rock\, jazz\, pop\, new age\, and experimental. In 2022 she joined Colombian drummer/percussionist and producer Diego Verney to form the esoteric electronica project Beta Lyra. She performs & records internationally having toured with Alexander O’Neal\, former Paisley Park artist David “T.C.” Ellis\, Mallia “The Queen of Funk” Franklin from Parliament-Funkadelic and Parlet; collaborating with drone artist Gregg Skloff\, New Age group Spectral Reflections\, and performing with Czech legends Pavel Bobek\, and Karel Šůcha and Laura A Její Tygří(Laura and Her Tigers). She continues to follow Alchymie in music\, searching for the beauty that is transformation.  \nThat search continues also through her sound healing work and the exploration of sound as a way to provide multidimensional well-being. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrederick Johnson is a community engagement specialist at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa\, FL\, and a renowned artist\, educator\, and social justice advocate. Johnson has spent the last 45 years creating spaces where art and creative expression have been used to empower and give voice to less privileged communities and provide safe and equitable forums where compassionate and authentic stories can be shared\, in an effort to transcend fear and division and create trust and transformation. Mentored by masters of the West African oral and healing traditions\, Johnson brings ancient wisdom and practices into a contemporary setting\, reexamining the healing power and importance of artistic expression and its aesthetic relevance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTim Conwell\, A Florida-based entrepreneur and founder of TNT Groove International\, has built a reputation as a leader in media\, entertainment\, and technology. With over 25 years of experience as a musician and community advocate\, Tim’s passion for music and outreach has seen him tour the U.S. during the legendary entertainment industry era in St. Paul/Minneapolis led by Prince\, Jimmy Jam\, Terry Lewis\, Alexander O’Neal and Paula Abdul; just to name a few. His deep connection to underserved communities fuels his belief in the generational healing power of music. Tim focuses on using music to bring people together\, create positive change\, and foster well-being.
