Her poems\, plays\, essays\, and interviews have been widely published and anthologized. A professor of literature and creative writing at the university level for the past thirty years\, she’s currently on permanent sabbatical\, working on her next act. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPedro el Poeta is an award-winning Hip-Hop/Spoken Word artist\, an activist\, a proud father of two\, and an Eckerd College Graduate with a B.A. in Creative Writing. He’s performed at The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center\, The Poynter Institute\, The Studio @ 620\, The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library at USF\, St. Pete\, and The Safety Harbor Art and Music Center (SHAMC). Author of the poetry collections Postcolonial Love Poem (Graywolf\, 2020)\, winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize\, and When My Brother Was an Aztec (Copper Canyon Press\, 2012)\, she has received many honors—including a MacArthur Fellowship\, a Mellon Fellowship\, a USA Fellowship\, a Lannan Literary Fellowship\, a Hodder Fellowship\, a PEN/Civitella Ranieri Foundation Residency\, a New School Fellowship\, and a Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowship. He graduated from the creative writing MFA program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His chapbook\, Koola Lobitos\, was published as a part of the New Generation African Poets Series\, edited by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani\, in 2021. His writing has appeared in LitHub\, New England Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Poetry and elsewhere. He is a former Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford University and has received a creative writing grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. He is the 2023-2024 Olive B. O’Connor Fellow in Poetry at Colgate University. He is the author of 2000 Blacks\, winner of the 2024 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSilvia Curbelo is the author of two full-length poetry collections\, Falling Landscape and The Secret History of Water\, both available from Anhinga Press\, and two chapbooks. Awards include poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs\, the Cintas Foundation and the Writer’s Voice\, as well as the Jessica Nobel Maxwell Poetry Prize from American Poetry Review. For the past thirty years\, he has worked in the theatre primarily as a playwright and as a director. \nHe has been a resident of St. Petersburg since 1997\, participating in many educational and cultural organizations. These include Academy Prep\, Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Task Force\, and the Florida Humanities Council. He currently serves on the board of Pinellas Diaspora Arts Project and sits on the Public Arts Commission for the City of St. Petersburg. He has been writing and performing poetry since a youth in high school and has since traveled all over the states competing in international\, national\, and regional poetry slam competitions. In 2018\, Curtis was ranked the eight poet in the world after becoming a finalist in the Individual World Poetry Slam held in San Diego\, CA. He is the Creative Director of 501c3 Non-Profit Heard ‘Em Say Youth Arts Collective and is the Co-Founder of GrowHouse with Dennis Amadeus. GrowHouse is an artist collective dedicated to growing community\, growing culture and growing creatives through poetry and hip-hop. They host a monthly poetry slam and weekly poetry workshops inside the historical Kress building in Ybor City.
