He graduated from the creative writing MFA program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His chapbook\, Koola Lobitos\, was published as a part of the New Generation African Poets Series\, edited by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani\, in 2021. His writing has appeared in LitHub\, New England Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Poetry and elsewhere. He is a former Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford University and has received a creative writing grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. He is the 2023-2024 Olive B. O’Connor Fellow in Poetry at Colgate University. He is the author of 2000 Blacks\, winner of the 2024 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSilvia Curbelo is the author of two full-length poetry collections\, Falling Landscape and The Secret History of Water\, both available from Anhinga Press\, and two chapbooks. Awards include poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs\, the Cintas Foundation and the Writer’s Voice\, as well as the Jessica Nobel Maxwell Poetry Prize from American Poetry Review. Her poems have been published widely in literary journals and more than three dozen anthologies\, including Helen Vendler’s Poems\, Poets\, Poetry (Beford/St Martin) and The Norton Anthology of Latino Literature (W.W. This choreopoem originally debuted in conjunction with our pervious exhibition Aimé Césaire: Poetry\, Surrealism and Négritude curated by Bob Devin Jones and The Dalí’s Curator and Senior Interpreter\, Peter Tush. \nUntil the River Never Grieves\, is a celebratory “choreopoem\,” of the Négritude Movement and the timeless poems of Aimé Césaire. For the past thirty years\, he has worked in the theatre primarily as a playwright and as a director. \nHe has been a resident of St. Petersburg since 1997\, participating in many educational and cultural organizations. These include Academy Prep\, Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Task Force\, and the Florida Humanities Council. He currently serves on the board of Pinellas Diaspora Arts Project and sits on the Public Arts Commission for the City of St. Petersburg. Bob is a recipient of numerous awards and grants\, including the Bank of America’s Hero Award\, Weekly Planet’s Best of the Bay for Directing and Playwright\, the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero in 2018\, the Tampa Bay Business Impact Award and was awarded The Key to The City of St Petersburg by then Mayor Rick Kriseman. \nBob is currently a contributing writer for The Artisan magazine. He has been writing and performing poetry since a youth in high school and has since traveled all over the states competing in international\, national\, and regional poetry slam competitions. In 2018\, Curtis was ranked the eight poet in the world after becoming a finalist in the Individual World Poetry Slam held in San Diego\, CA. He is the Creative Director of 501c3 Non-Profit Heard ‘Em Say Youth Arts Collective and is the Co-Founder of GrowHouse with Dennis Amadeus. GrowHouse is an artist collective dedicated to growing community\, growing culture and growing creatives through poetry and hip-hop. They host a monthly poetry slam and weekly poetry workshops inside the historical Kress building in Ybor City. As an artist/teaching artist\, Dennis has traveled extensively across the nation\, performing and conducting art-based educational workshops aimed at getting youth to see their creative potential. He has also organized multiple community fundraisers and book drives to support domestic and international causes\, including organizing 1000 books to be sent to Swaziland\, Africa\, to build a community library. Dennis’ continued community and civic engagement exhibit his desire to use his creativity and ability to bring people together to change communities on a local and international level.
