SUMMARY:Art and Meditation at The Dalí – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\nThis event has sold out.  \nJoin us to journey inward through art and meditation at The Dalí. Our monthly meditation practice is based on the idea of looking at examples of art to achieve a dynamic stillness of the mind. Each session will examine an artwork from a current exhibition to make us think\, refocus\, slow down and go deeper into our minds to permit body connection and awareness. \nAfter a short introduction to the artwork\, we will consider what is in its narrative and formal qualities that could serve us to quiet our minds. Guided meditation instruction and suggestions will lead us to a place of calmness and equilibrium. Each session will introduce and utilize different sets of tools from a variety of spiritual traditions to assist staying in comfortable meditative mode for about twenty minutes. However\, anyone having a prior meditation practice is welcome to utilize it and join us for the collective peaceful energy building.  \nTibetan sing bowl sound will accompany us with an occasional bell throughout the practice and to signal the end of the meditation session. Afterwards\, we will welcome questions and comments about the practice\, the artwork\, and the experience in general. \nWe will conclude with a minute of closing meditation to internally seal the benefits of the practice.   \nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater \nSeating for this event is limited. We recommend arriving early to secure seating with your group. \n\nRegister to attend in person at the link below. This event is free\, with limited capacity. An event ticket is required for entry. Gallery access is not included. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKristof Znyk \nKristof is a new transplant to St. Petersburg after living in New York for 30 years. A graduate of City University with a Master of Fine Arts degree\, Kristof taught visual arts in Gramercy Arts High School for 23 years. The intense city life and high job demands led him to become a spiritual seeker. After taking many classes in various yoga studios\, Kristof made the decision to study at the oldest New York City yoga establishment\, the Integral Yoga Institute.  Having earned his credentials\, he taught all aspects of yoga\, physical poses\, philosophy\, breath work and meditation at the institution from 2007 to 2020. Additional studies and certification in Restorative Yoga and Yoga for Kids helped Kristof to incorporate best practices with his students in high school as well as in the Yoga Institute. DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\n\nThis event has been canceled.  \nIn conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection we invite you to join us for a fantastic evening of polaroid photography.  \nPolaroid photography aficionado Lance Rothstein has been making instant photos since before 2008. Lance will bring a table full of Polaroid cameras from his personal collection and guide you through the fun process of creating Polaroid pictures. He’ll discuss the history of Polaroid\, show examples from famous photographers and share images from his tour of the Polaroid Factory in the Netherlands. Lance will also explain the different types of instant cameras and films currently available\, as well as those that have been discontinued. \nEach participant will be provided with an instant camera to borrow and one pack of instant film. After a brief instructional session on how to get the best results from your camera and film\, along with some creative tips\, you’ll have about 40 minutes to take photos on a guided photo walk outside and around the Museum’s first floor\, with advice available if needed. Digital photos can also be turned into real Polaroid pictures using Instant Labs. Materials are included. Gallery admission included after the workshop. \n\nLance Rothstein \nLocal darkroom guru Lance Rothstein is a native Floridian photographer\, now living in Clearwater. A professional photojournalist by trade\, his clients have included Time Magazine\, The Miami Herald\, Sports Illustrated\, and the New York Times. He was a staff photographer for the The Tampa Bay Times\, and The Tampa Tribune. \nLance studied Visual Art at FSU under great artists such as George Blakely\, Robert Fichter\, Ed Love\, Mark Messersmith and Mary Jo Toles. Other workshops included Jerry Ullesmann\, Donna Ferrato\, James Nachtwey\, Sebastiao Salgado and Gordon Parks. \nAfter working as a freelance photographer for six years in Belgium and capturing images all over Europe\, Lance has returned to Florida and is continuing his never-ending experiments with all things photographic. He has a passion for traditional film and alternative photography methods\, he’s a Polaroid addict and a pathological camera collector. Lance also runs the Film Photography Archive\, and the Art & Photography website “Labeauratoire.”
